There are other autonomous software packages out there - not the least of which is the new DJI Go app. However, this app offers many features and capabilities that none of them have — all put together in an extremely well thought out interface for both the iPhone and iPad.
This is a solution that just keeps getting better - from the recent release of advanced waypoints to the revolutionary new Airspace capability - the product remains a game changer for the way you fly.
I’ve been a long term user and fanboy of Autopilot and still find that the “focus” capability which allows you to let the software control the gimbal to maintain visual coverage of an object (even if that object is moving) to be one of the most powerful things to use. Focus was fantastic with the Inspire and now with Cruise mode - you can allow autopilot to control your yaw to maintain gimbal and quad focus. Amazing.
The software is best used with an iPhone 6+ or iPad Air 2 (or above) - both because they offer the best processors for this intensive application and because it offers a barometer which intelligently adjusts the follow me functionality based upon the altitude of the operator.
For more information, be sure to check out their web site, read Flight School, and watch the videos that were created to help users take advantage of the growing list of modes and features.
