Autopilot for DJI Drones App Reviews

This is one of those APPS that DJI could have made and incorporated into their software. BUT, NO! The programmers that created this APP are genius and should be highly commended. The APP has Basic, Intermediate and Advanced setting. Outstanding. I highly recommend this APP over anything DJI might come out with. This is a must have APP if you have a Phantom 3 or Inspire 1.

Great app. Best $20 spent on this hobby/industry. Hats off to a first class automated flight modes app from a company that interacts with and listens to its customers and uses its own products. And the Waypoints are great. Buy it!!

Hats off to the Autoflightlogic Team! After my app updated yesterday I created my first waypoint mission within 30 minutes and then flew it! I previewed the entire mission without having to waste valuable battery time and everything worked as designed. Keep up the great work! Dont hesitate to purchase its worth every penny. Scott

If your looking to do long distance waypoints Litchi is the best for now. With Autopilot App if you loose radio comm this will cause RTH, no choice. Litchi will allow you to program phantom and it will fly your waypoints regardless of remote communication. According to tutorial docs for Autopilot they are working on a future version for commercial applications that will allow Autopilot without remote communication. But of course they want more cash for such a simple feature. Boo avoid until they fix this...at $30 it should be included!

Nice app, but a couple big failures I see right away. First, you cant see the map and video feed at the same time in black box mode when in landscape. Thats relatively dumb. Second, the settings page is well detailed but nothing has any description. Its impossible to tell what each option does. The only place to find this info is to look at the tutorial, which isnt accessible from the settings screen. You have to go into a flight mode then to the tutorial, read what you want, back out of flight mode, back to settings. Too many steps. Each item on the settings page should have a quick hint. I also wish they would ditch the 13 minimum altitude. So many shots I want to do at 6-8. The focus mode is relatively terrible. It is constantly doing circles. If you are on a bike and move forward, the camera follows. If you stop, the phantom doesnt stop, will fly past the set horizontal distance then go in circles rather than backing up and keeping the proper distance. Makes for worthless video unless you are always moving. Overall, the DJI app is better for regular old flight, but this is better with the new stuff released in recent firmware.

The new waypoint features are awesome. Very well done guys! The app was very solid and useful before and worth every penny, but the waypoints are what Ive been waiting for.

This AutoFlight app is powerful in its features. Its ability to focus the camera on specific points is exceptionally remarkable. You can create very professional grade results with this product if you learn how to use it. I would have given it five stars if it was truly autonomous in its flight modes. Unlike the similar, but less sophisticated and less costly LITCHI app, AutoLogics App will initiate a return to home (RTH) whenever it loses connection with the quad copter remote control....and will then fly directly to your preset home point...I dont like this because there could be unpredictable consequences...like obstacles. Conversely, the LITCHI app will continue to fly its waypoint mission even if it loses communications. The waypoint mission actually gets uploaded into the copter. The copter will return to you using the waypoint route you programmed....that route might safely take you through a valley whereas an automatic RTH might take it into the side of a mountain whilst trying to fly a bee-line directly back to you when communications are lost. I always make my last waypoint at or near my home point location, so worst-case scenario is that the quad copter flies back to where it started while using the safe route you planned..and hovers at my assigned altitude at the last waypoint (if you have it set to "hover" at the last waypoint.) From hovering at the last waypoint, I take over manual control of the copter by flipping the flight mode switch to P and land manually. I feel much safer flying a pre-planed LITCHI mission, especially when pushing the limits on variable terrain like mountains. Just take your time, triple check your altitudes, always adding a healthy safety margin for the first flights of a given waypoint mission. You can always reduce the altitudes for follow-on missions once you do a visual review of the first flights.

Had to delete app is powerful with all the features but at the same time for me felt impossible to set up properly Cruise feature giving the phantom 3 pro 360 feature sounds great But I couldnt get it to focus on anything point of interest always off airspace never worked and focus on operator was never on me but would be next to me properly and airspace would never connect right to Follow me mode would work but phantom never stayed at the right height or would inconsistent orbit was ok works at higher altitudes but lower altitudes wouldnt work at all camera would keep freezing or crashing mid flight sometimes stick feedback was lagged even if changed made my drone really jerky in air for $30 app for me was just not worth it waypoints didnt test out just felt I dont trust the modes to fly for me

I got 3.0 the day it was released because of the inclusion of waypoints. The program is easier to learn and operate than anticipated, probably, because of the many online video tutorials and Flight School. The Inspire is now producing videos that it never was able to produce before, having just a single operator. This App is probably the best "bang for the buck Ive ever gotten.

Great app, must buy if you want to impress your friends from take off to landing its all automatic. I feel like an actual pilot using this app. Thanks Autoflightlogic

I have been beta testing this app for a few weeks now. I use it and a competing flight software for my Phantom 3 Advanced. I love the robustness of Autopilot, what I do not like is the difficulty in finding or viewing pictures and video. I really wish that it was more intuitive. Otherwise it gets 5 stars. I look forward to future improvements.

I purchased a Phantom 3 Professional back in November after seeing my girlfriend’s father’s (he purchased his in order to take photographs and movies of the homes he was building for his clients). At first, it was fun to fly around and to see how far I could go, but eventually, due to the bare bones DJI GO app, I quickly lost interest. About a month after having it, my girlfriend’s father and I were discussing how difficult it was to take good, clear video, so I began researching what apps could possibly make this happen. After coming across Autopilot, and seeing the price tag, I was a little skeptical, but after purchasing it, I have not flown once without it! Yes, as one reviewer said, there is a lot to read and learn, but that’s going to be the same for anything, albeit a new DSLR or photo-editing software. The trade off however, are AMAZING SMOOTH videos. DJI’s automated features often result in shaking, jerky footage. Autopilot allows you to tweak options to prevent that. DJI’s follow me mode will follow you, but each time I tried, the DJI app disengaged after about 3-4 minutes. Autopilot on the other hand, has not ONCE disengaged while in follow me mode, and I’ve tested the heck out of it. I’ve taken at least ten, 20 minute drives on a highway at 40 MPH and Autopilot not only kept up, but also controlled the gimbal, pitch, and yaw, so that I was always in frame. The only downside to Autopilot, is that after buying it, I’ve purchased four additional batteries along with six polar pro filters. Why? Because Autopilot turned my Phantom 3 from a toy, into a legitimate, professional piece of photography equipment.

This makes flying my drone s breeze. I feel like a pro photographer when flying and filming with my DJI Phantom. Been waiting for DJI to come out with something like this. Thanks for making flying even more. Cant wait to see what you add yo this app in the free very near future. Great work guys.

Downloaded only to find that DJI has a firmware issue that prevents the return to home feature for third party apps so using this app right now exposes user to flyaway risk... Not worth the money until that is fixed.

Great job on creating a wonderful program that makes getting amazing scenes a snap. It has lots of different modes and levels of functionality and use. The user interface was a bit difficult for me to grasp. Watching the tutorial videos was such a help.

The leader in flight planning software with the best customer service.

I recently spent $30 on this app. Probably the most expensive app I have purchased. Some people paid up to $50 I believe with in-app purchases. Flew twice with my P2V+ and was disappointed in a few bugs, but excited to see frequent updates to this app and assumed they would be worked out. Very upset to see that with the latest update any Phantom 2 Visions will no longer work AT ALL. Ultimately, DJI sort of forced the developers hand. To update to the new SDK and support newer aircraft, they needed to drop support for the older aircraft. But this could have been handled differently. The developer could have branched the app into two, one which supported older aircraft types and one that supported newer aircraft. Instead they are essentially saying "sorry, this is DJIs fault" and suggesting (if its not too late... which it probably is if youre on their web site looking) that you dont upgrade and turn off auto update on all your devices for all your apps for eternity. So 1 star for a company that makes a really expensive and pretty good app but doesnt care about their customers enough to think through a better solution.

Autopilot changed the world with the new WAYPOINTS function in this App. I plan it, then go watch The Autopilot execute a perfect flight, providing perfect video, every time. And I can save the flight plan for later use and fly it again, exactly!! Nothing else even comes close!!
